BRS working president KT Rama Rao asserted that BRS founder and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao becoming Chief Minister of Telangana again was inevitable. He said growing public dissent against the Congress government was driving people back towards the BRS.
Addressing a meeting of BRS leaders from Amberpet constituency on Friday, Rama Rao said people were waiting for an opportunity to vote for Chandrashekhar Rao again. He predicted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had only another year in office before the BRS returned to power.
He accused the Congress government of failing on all fronts, citing power shortages affecting farmers, drinking water problems and a deepening agricultural crisis. He said all sections of society had been let down and that the government was unable to address public grievances.
The BRS working president criticised the ruling Congress for neglecting preparations for El Niño, despite being alerted about it 10 months in advance. He said neighbouring States had taken adequate precautionary measures and filled their reservoirs, while Telangana had failed to utilise the available water.
Rama Rao accused the Congress of deliberately avoiding the operation of pumps at the Kaleshwaram project to deny credit to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for building it and instead strengthen what he called the party’s false claims about
the project. He also accused the ruling party of spreading false propaganda about the Medigadda barrage and alleged that Congress leaders themselves might have damaged it.
He further charged that the Congress and BJP were united in targeting Chandrashekhar Rao and himself instead of protecting Telangana’s interests. He described the State government’s functioning as chaotic and accused it of pursuing a “loot agenda”.
Turning to national politics, Rama Rao said the BJP had weakened over the past decade and the Congress had failed to provide an effective alternative. He said Chandrashekhar Rao’s earlier proposal for a non-Congress, non-BJP political alternative was gaining significance again. He reiterated that Chandrashekhar Rao would soon play a decisive role not only in Telangana but also in national politics.
“People have lost faith in Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Hence, youth under CJP are taking to the streets. BJP too has been unable to stop them,” he added.
He also challenged the Congress to hold local body elections, stating that the BRS could repeat its strong performance in the 2017 municipal elections. Urging party cadres to work together for the Graduate MLC elections, he alleged that the Congress was relying on money power and had betrayed students, unemployed youth and young voters by failing to fulfil the promises made in its Youth Declaration.
