Pregnant woman dies by suicide over dowry harassment in Karimnagar

Unable to bear alleged harassment by her in-laws for additional dowry, a seven-month pregnant woman, Malleboina Mounika, 20, died by suicide at Sriramulapalli in Ellandakunta mandal on Monday.

She is said to have hanged herself from the ceiling when her family members were away. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the incident.

According to police, Mounika married Malleboina Prashanth of Budaram in Ghanapur mandal of



Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on December 22, 2024. At the time of marriage, Prashanth was given two guntas of house-site land, Rs.8 lakh in cash and two tolas of gold, among other items, towards dowry

Prashanth and his parents, Sampath and Narasamma, allegedly harassed Mounika for additional dowry in the form of a motorcycle. Unable to endure the alleged mental and physical harassment, she left for her parental home a week ago and died by suicide on Monday..
