Polling begins for final phase of Panchayat elections in Telangana today

In Telangana, polling for the third and final phase of Panchayat elections has begun.
11 thousand 667 candidates are in the fray for Sarpanch posts in 3529 Gram Panchayats in all districts in the state, except Hyderabad.
It may be noted that, sarpanches for 573 Gram Panchayats and members for 8956 wards have been unanimously elected.

Besides, over 67 thousand candidates are also contesting for over 27 thousand 500 wards. In addition, re-polling is also being done at a few Gram Panchayats where the polling was held during first and second phase elections, but re-polling was ordered due to various
technical reasons.

It may be noted that, sarpanches for 573 Gram Panchayats and members for 8956 wards have been unanimously elected.
Amidst tight security arrangements, the polling has begun at 7am and will continue till 1PM.
Over 40 lakh electors will exercise their franchise while about a lakh personnel have been deployed on polling and security duties. The counting of votes will be taken up from 2PM onwards.
