The Hyderabad Police imposed tight security arrangements around Gun Park and the State Assembly premises on Monday as assembly sessions commenced.
The deployment followed intelligence inputs suggesting possible protests by various groups over pending issues. A three-tier security system has been put in place in the vicinity of the Assembly, with nearly 1,000 police personnel stationed at key locations to prevent any breach of law and order.
The security measures come in
the wake of a protest call given by former sarpanches, who have been demanding the release of their long-pending bills. According to the protesters, dues to the tune of Rs 531 crore remain unpaid by the State government.
Anticipating an attempt to lay siege to the Assembly, the police carried out preventive detentions and arrested several former sarpanches in advance. Officials said the action was taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the Assembly sessions and to avoid inconvenience to the public.
