After evading arrest for a week, Sai Bageerath, accused in a POCSO case at Petbasheerabad police station, surrendered before Hyderabad police on Saturday evening.
However, there were conflicting reports on how Bageerath reached the Petbasheerabad police station, with some accounts suggesting he did not surrender voluntarily but was apprehended by police teams at Narsingi on the city outskirts.
Amid speculation over the suspect?s surrender, security at the police station was stepped up with barriers erected around the premises. Senior police officials reportedly
monitored the security arrangements and developments through the afternoon.
The case involving inappropriate behaviour with a minor girl, which triggered widespread anger among citizens, particularly women in the state, saw the suspect evading police even after the High Court declined to grant a no-arrest order till the final outcome of the arguments on his anticipatory bail petition is announced by the vacation bench.
Reports said Sai Bageerath, accompanied by his legal team, arrived at the police station and surrendered before the investigating officer handling the case.
