Phone tapping case: BRS issues legal notice to Mahaa News for defamatory coverage

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has issued legal notices to Mahaa News, holding it responsible for the false and malicious reports being put out by it targeting the party and its leaders, including BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and Working President KT Rama Rao in connection with the phone tapping controversy.

The BRS alleged that Mahaa News, in collaboration with certain ruling government leaders, has been broadcasting fake news and misleading content to defame the party. According to the BRS, Mahaa News has been using fabricated thumbnails and baseless stories to target its leadership, particularly KT Rama Rao in the phone tapping case.

Despite repeated appeals from the party to adhere to ethical journalism, the channel has continued its defamatory coverage, prompting the BRS to take legal action. The party claims that Mahaa News’s management was



engaging in a personal vendetta under the guise of journalism, spreading false narratives through its YouTube channel to damage the reputation of BRS leaders.

The BRS highlighted that it had previously taken legal action against Congress leaders and YouTube channels for similar defamatory remarks, resulting in court warnings in some cases. It recalled that a Rs. 100 crore defamation suit filed against Minister Konda Surekha led to her being reprimanded by the court and the Election Commission also issuing warnings.

The party stated that Mahaa News’s failure to change its editorial approach could lead to further legal action, including defamation lawsuits and criminal defamation charges, similar to the Konda Surekha case. The BRS urged Mahaa News to act responsibly as a news organization and use journalism for the benefit of the society rather than personal agendas.
