Cyberabad Cyber Crime DCP T. Sai Manohar said cyber criminals were deceiving people in the name of Water Board. They are looting people on the grounds of metre updating, bill verification and authentication of CAN.

The criminals are sending WhatsApp messages, SMSes or doing phone calls and intimidating the people that their water supply would be suspended because the water bill was not updated, metre reading was not registered, or CAN verification is

pending.

For resolving the problem, they are suggesting that the consumers download remote apps like APK files or Kwik Support and gaining the trust of the users saying they need to pay just Rs 10, Rs 13 or Rs 20. Once the remote app is installed, the mobile phone either gets hung, screen goes blank or the phone does something unusual. Some gullible are even being guided by giving suggestions through video calls. Some are asked to follow their instructions on the UPI and banking apps, he said.
