TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday said the Telangana Congress had launched the ‘Janahita Padayatra’ as per the directive of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, who instructed party leaders to stay among the people and take grassroots feedback from workers on public issues.
Speaking at a gathering in Parigi after launching the padayatra, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the initiative aims to assess ground realities and understand the needs and concerns of the people.
“Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said coming to power will not suffice. He wanted us to be among people and strive for their welfare,” Mahesh Kumar Goud said.
He said people had reposed faith in the Congress and the six guarantees it promised. The Congress, he added, delivers on its promises and will ensure all the guarantees are
fulfilled.
AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan stated that the padayatra was being held under the leadership of the TPCC president. She said the Congress government had already implemented free bus travel for women, fine rice distribution through fair price shops, and other key promises soon after assuming power.
Highlighting Rahul Gandhi’s call for caste-based reservations proportional to population, Meenakshi Natarajan said the Telangana government had passed legislation to extend 42 percent reservations to Backward Classes. She urged all Congress leaders to participate in large numbers at the upcoming protests in New Delhi to press the Centre on the issue.
IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, Forest Minister Konda Surekha, and several MLAs joined Natarajan and Goud in the padayatra on its first day.
