AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has on Wednesday called for financial help from the State government to bright Muslim girls, many of whom were performing exceptionally well in academics despite abject poverty.

In a series of tweets after presenting a cheque of Rs.15,000 to Reshma Jahan Begum, a student of Mahaboobia Government Junior College, who was the State topper in all government colleges in the intermediate examinations, Owaisi also asked for official attention to the Mahaboobia college.

Owaisi had presented the girl, who scored 962 out of 1,000 marks, with the cash reward from the Majlis Charity, Education and Relief Trust to help her pursue a Bachelor of Commerce course from the University College for Women, Koti.

Appreciating her performance, he tweeted that she had told him that she wanted to become a chartered accountant,

and that she had scored 99 out of 100 for Commerce. The daughter of Mohammed Javed, a chemicals supplier, Reshma’s sister too had done well, scoring 924 out of 100 in intermediate from the same college.

Owaisi said the government should also financially help the bright girl, who had told him that she had studied in abject poverty, and had gone to college on an empty stomach throughout the two-year course.

He said he also spoke to AK Khan, Advisor (Minority Affairs) to the State government, to ‘help such bright Muslim girl students so that they can realize and fulfill their dreams’.

Owaisi, who tagged both Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and IT Minister KT Rama Rao in his tweet, also pointed out that the Mahaboobia college was a 100-year-old institution and the building needed repair.
