OU launches Digital Garden to document campus flora

Osmania University on Monday launched its ‘Digital Garden’, an online portal documenting the rich floral diversity of its campus.

The Digital Garden is a key initiative by the University Administration to reinforce its commitment to maintaining a sustainable, green campus. Currently, 52 percent of the university’s expansive campus is dedicated to green areas, including natural forests, plantations and landscaped gardens.

new digital platform, with a checklist of the campus flora documenting 839 plant species across 131 families and 49 orders, is an effort by the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies, a Centre of Excellence at the university.

Speaking after launching the web portal, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram appreciated the meticulous work put in by the scientists at the Centre for conceptualising, documenting and presenting this extensive information.
