Doctors at Osmania General Hospital have achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing India’s first five-organ multi-visceral transplant on a single patient in one procedure.
The rare and highly complex surgery involved the simultaneous transplantation of the stomach, duodenum, pancreas, small bowel, and right colon (large intestine) into a 30-year-old engineer from Sircilla.
The operation
lasted 36 hours and was carried out by a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha congratulated the medical team, stating that the achievement enhances the reputation of Telangana’s public healthcare system.
He praised the coordinated efforts of doctors, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, critical care specialists, and supporting personnel in successfully completing the complex procedure.
