A 31-year-old woman was killed and five others were seriously injured after a speeding car crashed into a divider on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Pedda Golconda early on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Kothagadi Shirisha, a homemaker and resident of Sangareddy. The injured persons in the car included the deceased woman’s 10-year-old daughter, Sandhya, 36, and her 9-year-old daughter, Veeramani, 45, and Sharada, 40. They were shifted to a hospital in Shamshabad for treatment.
The victims were travelling from Sangareddy to a meditation facility in Kadthal when the accident occured. According to Shamshabad police, the group left Sangareddy around 3.30 a.m. in an SUV bearing registration number ‘AP 28 R 2727'
Police said that around 4.50 a.m., the driver, allegedly driving at high
speed, lost control of the vehicle near Pedda Golconda on the ORR and rammed into the divider. The impact threw Shirisha out of the vehicle. She sustained severe bleeding injuries to her head and body, and died on the spot.
The complainant, Arkathala Mahesh Kumar, Shirisha’s younger brother, said he was informed about the accident by the police and rushed to the spot, where he found his sister lying dead on the road.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Mohammed Arshad, a native of Sangareddy, was arrested by the Shamshabad police. Police said preliminary investigation suggested that the vehicle was old and that the steering may have gotten locked, contributing to loss of control.
A case of causing death by negligence has been booked against him and further investigation is underway.
