Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the State government issued orders allowing standalone theatres to collect a parking fee from persons who park vehicles on their premises.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department had issued orders saying, “We hereby permit the owners of standalone cinema theatres to collect parking fees from the persons who park the vehicle on their premises.”

Film-goers will now have to pay Rs.20 for parking a two-wheeler and Rs.30 for parking a car in theatres across the State. The order comes into force with

immediate effect.

However, the order noted that multiplexes and theatres located in commercial establishments will not be allowed to collect parking fees. Permission to collect parking charges has been one of the many demands put forward by theatre owners to the State government, with their revenues badly hit during the pandemic.

It also noted that those who were not coming to watch films had been parking their vehicles in theatres and maintaining the parking premises and ensuring the safety of vehicles, had become an issue for theatre owners.
