The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will conduct an open inquiry into the Pedda Dhanwada incident in Hyderabad on July 28.

The Commission was approached by an advocate, I Rama Rao, who alleged that the police registered false cases and let loose a reign of terror against farmers agitating against the setting up of an ethanol factory on

their lands.

The NHRC, in its communication to the Telangana government, asked it to ensure that all those connected to the agitation could depose before the commission and to make necessary arrangements.

The Commission asked Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Dr Jithendar to submit an action taken report within a week.
