An alleged illegal sale of a newborn male infant in a case involving biological parents, prospective adoptive parents, and intermediaries was reported at Kulsumpura on Wednesday.
A Zero FIR has been registered at Kulsumpura Police Station and transferred to Nandigama Police Station in Ranga Reddy district for further investigation.
According to police, the case came to light after the Women and Child Welfare Department received credible information about the unlawful transfer of a newborn child.
Following an inquiry, officials found that Madhusudhan and Meena, residents of Hyderabad who had been childless for nearly 18 years, were searching for a child to adopt and allegedly approached P Suresh for
assistance.
Officials said Suresh, along with Padma Paltiya, allegedly acted as mediators in arranging the transfer of a newborn boy born on May 28 at a private hospital in Tukkuguda.
The infant was reportedly born with a physical disability.
Officials found that the biological parents, Mohan and Sandhya, allegedly agreed to hand over the child to Padma, a relative of the father.
The baby was subsequently handed over to Madhusudhan and Meena at JP Dargah in Kothur mandal. During the transaction, an amount of Rs 1.70 lakh was allegedly paid to Padma in the presence of Suresh.
Officials said the transfer was carried out without following the legal adoption procedures mandated under law.
