New schemes for development of washermen and barbers will be launched in next month at Pragathi Bhavan, said Minister for Finance Etela Rajender here on Sunday.

Minister for BC welfare Jogu Ramanna and Rajender held a review meeting with MBC corporation, BC corporation and societies of washermen and barbers (Nayi Brahmin) at Secretariat.

Addressing the members Rajender said the State government has decided to revamp the caste-based profession by providing financial assistance. “The government will provide financial assistance and encourage them to establish modern shops to stand on their own,” Minister said.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was keen on developing washermen and barbers in the State by interlinking their professions with the modern technology and continuing till they become prosperous.
Minister said the State government was making human resource a qualitative asset with the novel schemes, besides giving major thrust to



the education system and establishing 500 residential schools in the State.

“We are extending major boost to the caste-based professions and allocating funds accordingly,” Rajender said.He recalled that as per the budget allocations funds were given to fishermen and sheep rearing societies. Rajender hailed the launching of ‘ Nethannaku Cheyuta Scheme’ (helping hand for weaver) with an outlay of Rs 1,200 crore.

Speaking at the meeting BC welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna said unlike earlier government’s the ruling government had entrusted the schemes design job to the societies rather drafted by the government itself.
“The societies who are staying at the ground level know their requirements better hence they can design their own schemes,” Ramanna said.

Most Back Ward (MBC) corporation Chairmen T Srinivas, BC corporation MD, Mallaiah Battu principal secretary Ashok Kumar, and society members took part in the meeting.
