New CRS portal to simplify birth, death certificate registrations in Telangana

A new portal, Civil Registration System (CRS), is to be launched soon to enable online registration of birth and death certificates. 

The initiative aims to provide a digital platform for applying for and processing birth and death certificate registrations online.

The Central government has launched the CRS portal and made it mandatory for all states to implement it. Presently, the GHMC is authorised to issue birth and death certificates to residents of



Greater Hyderabad, and the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) in the Cantonment.

“Different states have been following different systems in issuing birth and death certificates. As a result, thousands of illegal certificates were being generated to get government benefits,” an SCB senior official told Media.

GHMC officials, who noticed 26,000 fake birth and death certificates a few months ago, recommended criminal action against the responsible outsourcing staff.
