Nehru Zoo celebrates World Lion Day, highlights lion conservation

The Nehru Zoological Park on Sunday celebrated World Lion Day, highlighting the importance of one of the world’s most majestic big cats and emphasising protection of both the Asiatic Lions and African Lions.

Marking the day, animal keeper talk shows were conducted with the animal caretakers giving a brief lecture on the daily activities they conduct, behaviour of the animals, daily feed and vaccination schedule, and breeding programmes.

Deputy Curator, J Muralidhar, said the Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad,



is at the forefront in conducting Wildlife Education and outreach programmes on every Eco-Day. The zoo is housing both the Asiatic Lions and the African Lions in their respective enclosures.

The concept of a safari in the zoo was started way back in 1974, when the first Lion Safari Park was started, and the total area of the safari is 45 acres. Every morning, a pride of lions is released into the safari, which is a thrilling experience for the visitors, where the animals are free and the human beings are closed, termed as a zoo in reverse.
