Necklace Road to be renamed PV Gnan Marg

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday instructed the officials concerned to develop Necklace Road as PV Gnan Marg by taking up beautification works along the entire stretch and also install a statue of the late Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao. The officials concerned were instructed to expedite the process to erect statues in Hyderabad as well as New Delhi.

The proposed PV memorial in Hyderabad will be built on international standards, showcasing the versatility and multi-faceted personality of Narasimha Rao in different fields throughout his life. The government will soon identify necessary land for the memorial and take up construction. Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud was instructed to visit Narasimha Rao’s birthplace Laknepalli and Vangara where he spent his childhood, and prepare an action plan to develop them as tourist destinations.

The State government will also write to the UNESCO for presenting an international award in the name of PV Narasimha Rao to those who served in the fields of education, science and literature. The State government will provide necessary financial support for the award. Arrangements are already being made to celebrated the birth centenary of Narasimha Rao across the world and related programme schedules will be announced shortly.

It was also decided to invite Narasimha Rao’s contemporaries and stalwarts from other countries including former US President Bill Clinton, former British Prime Ministers John Major and David Cameron among others to participate in the centenary celebrations to be held in India. The Chief Minister decided to personally write letters to President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Ministers of different States, inviting them to participate in the celebrations to be organised by the State government.

Narasimha Rao’s long association with Delhi, Chandrashekhar Rao suggested for installing his statue at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. He also asked the officials to organise the birth centenary celebrations in different States including New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and others where PV shared an association. The centenary celebrations will be organised in all the districts in Telangana State as well.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister proposed for publication of all the unpublished literary works of PV Narasimha Rao on behalf of the Telangana Sahitya Akademi. Separate books were suggested containing articles on the former Prime Minister and also his famous speeches or interviews at various occasions. A coffee table book comprising memorable moments of Narasimha Rao is also being planned. The Culture department has been directed to organise a photo exhibition on the life of PV Narasimha Rao on the lines of Telangana Samburalu along with cultural programmes and native food depicting the rich culture of Telangana.

On the occasion, Narasimha Rao’s daughter Vani Devi presented a collection of books authored by her father and also books written on him to the Chief Minister.
