A pious atmosphere prevails across the city as Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, popular as Bakrid, on Wednesday. The festival is celebrated on the 10th of the Islamic month of Zul-hijja every year.

Scores of people dressed in festive attire gathered at mosques and idgah across the city and attended the Eid prayers. At the Eidgah Mir Alam, the prayers were led by Maulan Rizwan Qureshi, Khateeb Mecca Masjid. However, the gathering was not encouraging in view of Covid 19 pandemic apprehensions.

People preferred to attend the prayers at the local mosques in the neighbourhood where the prayers were held as early as 6.30 am keeping in view the other tasks associated with Eid-ul-Adha. Many people after prayers were seen rushing to their houses to complete the

main task of offering ‘qurbani’ of cattle.

Afterwards the people started visiting the houses of their relatives, friends and well wishers to offer a part of the sacrificial meat.

A mad rush was seen till last night at the cattle markets till early hours of the day with people flocking to purchase the sheep. The rains failed to dampen the shopping spirit among the people.

Eminent personalities extended greetings to the community on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

At the Mir Alam Eidgah and other important places where gatherings were witnessed, officials of the police department were present and they extended their greetings to the community.
