Tension prevailed at Yakutpura area in the old city late on Saturday night after members of two Muslim groups raised objections to alleged “derogatory remarks” made by a prominent speaker at a mosque during a religious meeting.

The trouble started around midnight, when prominent religious speaker Brother Imran, was invited to address a gathering at a mosque in the Etebar Chowk stretch.

“During his address to the gathering mainly comprising the Ahle- Hadees group of the Muslims, he reportedly passed some remarks against religious figures prompting reaction from the Shia groups and Ahle Sunnatul Jammat group,” said the police.

As the public address was in progress, the crowd outside gathered and raised slogans demanding action against him for making the “derogatory



statements”.

Soon police teams who were in the area rushed to the spot and informed the higher ups who too joined in to control the about 3,000 mob gathered at the place.

Taking into account the sensitivity of the situation Hyderabad Commissioner Anjani Kumar, who was reportedly attending some function, immediately rushed to the spot and supervised the security arrangements.

Police officials and forces from different areas of the city were brought in and assistance from City Rapid Action Force, City Armed Reserve Force and Task Force was sought.

The police started patrolling the areas of Panjesha, Etebar Chowk, Darulshifa, Dabeerpura, Purani Haveli, Yakutpura Bada Bazaar, Noor Khan Bazaar, Alijah Kotla and Rein Bazaar.
