A new mother and her infant died due to alleged negligence of doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad, on Friday.

Family members said that Chikram Rukmabai (26) from Shanthapur in Gudihathnoor mandal delivered a baby boy at the institute on Thursday. The infant reportedly developed some illness and died by midnight after his condition deteriorated. The mother also

died early on Friday morning, with relatives alleging that she fell from her bed.

Rukmabai’s husband, Gnan Dev, alleged that doctors had forced them to give an undertaking stating that no one was responsible for the deaths of the mother and infant. He, along with other family members, held the medical staff responsible and demanded an inquiry into the incident and stern action against those at fault.
