A section of the much-awaited Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) phase-II connecting suburbs is set to be thrown open for commuters by December. The 6-km Tellapur-Ramachandrapuram rail route near Lingampally will be the first stretch to be commissioned, officials of the South Central Railway (SCR) said on Tuesday. The expansion and commissioning of other sections in Phase-II, which was sanctioned in 2012-13 with an estimate of Rs 813 crore spanning 75 km, is expected to be completed by December 2018.
A few months after the commissioning of the Tellapur-Ramachandrapuram stretch, SCR is expected to open the 12-km Mouli Ali to Ghatkesar route or the 14-km Bolaram to Medchal route where the works are going on at a rapid pace.On Tuesday, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav inspected the works along the Secunderabad-Mouli Ali-Charlapalli-Ghatkesar sections.
The execution of MMTS phase-II suffered due to inordinate delays in acquiring defence land along the proposed 4-km rail route at Suchitra junction and another half-a-kilometre stretch between

Bhudevinagar and Ammuguda. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the cabinet committee intervened and advised the Ministry of Defence to permit the use of defence land. An official order to this effect is expected to reach the local authorities in the coming months,” Yadav said.
The process to acquire additional land to lay rail tracks for phase II along the Moula Ali- Cherlapalli and Ghatkesar stretchs was almost over, SCR said.Over three acres from Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hindustan Cables Limited (HCL) and Centre for Materials and Electronics Technology (C-MET) at Mallapur was acquired and the rail road is being laid.
Authorities of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) said the phase II project was taken up on a cost-sharing basis with the State government already releasing close to Rs 60 crore. Another Rs 160 crore is expected to be released this year.
Under MMTS phase-II, five stations, between Moula Ali- Sanathnagar route that includes Ferozguda, Suchitra junction, Bhudevi Nagar, Neredmet and Moula Ali HB Colony, will be constructed.
