A seven-year-old boy, Manchikatla Maniteja, who had been bedridden after being bitten by a dog, died on Sunday evening after battling for life for 15 months. His condition did not improve despite the family spending Rs 65 lakh on treatment.

Natives of Kotilingala in Velgatur mandal, Manchikatla Srinivas and Madhavi have two children, Hayathi and Maniteja. Srinivas, a software engineer working in Hyderabad, was staying in the State capital with his family.

Maniteja had come to his native village in December 2024. On December 26, he was attacked by a stray dog and sustained severe bite injuries on his

neck.

After initial treatment at a local hospital, family members shifted him to Rainbow Hospital in Hyderabad, where they spent Rs.30 lakh over three months.

Doctors informed the parents that there was no significant response from the boy except for minimal body movements, as a nerve connecting the spine to the brain had been damaged.

Later, the parents modified a room in their residence in Hyderabad by spending Rs.10 lakh and arranged an air conditioner, ventilator and other medical facilities to continue treatment.

However, the boy succumbed on Sunday evening. His body was brought to Kotilingala for the final rites.
