Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao on Thursday pressed the Centre to approve a second terminal at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad, stating that surging passenger traffic is pushing the facility to its limits.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Raghunandan Rao cited official data that showed that 35 lakh passengers used the airport in 2025-26, nearing its annual peak capacity of 40 lakh. "Domestic and international footfall is exploding, demanding

immediate expansion," Rao said.

Highlighting Telangana's infrastructure gap, Rao noted the state had just one major airport, compared to eight in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

He urged the state government to fast-track land acquisition to set up new airports in the state. Rao also called for accelerated support from the state for development of two airports — at Mamnoor near Warangal and at Adilabad, which have been already sanctioned by the Centre.
