Protests against Marwardi traders intensified on Friday with student groups and local traders staging demonstrations at various places the in the cuty.
In Habsiguda, several activists of the OU Joint Action Committee (OU JAC) and Adivasi Student Union staged a protest outside Navkar Gold, a Marwadi-owned jewellery shop. The protestors burnt tyres and raised slogans of “Go Back Marwadi” while condemning the arrest of OU JAC Chairman K Tirupati.
The OU Police swiftly intervened, taking the protesting student leaders into preventive custody and shifting them to the police
station.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimpatnam witnessed a large-scale rally organised by local traders. Hundreds of participants took out a bike rally across Sagar Highway, Manchal Road and Old Bus Stand Road, raising slogans such as “Marwadi Hatao, Telangana Bachao” and “Go Back Marwadi, Save Telangana”.
Meanwhile, some shops dealing in groceries, textiles, goldsmith work, and other trades voluntarily shut down in support of the bandh call.
The protests, marked by both student and trader participation, have escalated tensions, with police maintaining a close watch to prevent further unrest.
