Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) students on Friday called off their protest after the varsity administration gave an official written communication regarding the conduct of students’ union elections, which had been pending for over one and a half years, from the next academic year.
As per the minutes of the meeting issued by the Dean Students’ Welfare Office on January 30, 2026, the university has, in principle, agreed to conduct elections for the MANUU Students’ Union, similar to other statutory bodies.
The administration,
according to students, said it would explore all possibilities to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections in the academic session 2026–27, after completion of the admission process in the first semester.
Reacting to the development, student leader and PhD scholar Swaleh Ansari said students have called off the strike following the official assurance.
“We are ending the strike with the hope that the MANUU administration will conduct students’ union elections at the beginning of the next academic session,” he added.
