Irregularities in allotment of Indiramma housing came to light again on Wednesday when a man attempted self-immolation after reportedly being denied a house at the last moment in Palamakula village of Nanganur mandal.
The individual, named Srikanth, sat down on the busy Siddipet–Hanmakonda road and left his motorbike on the roadway, leading to traffic congestion. Handling a bottle filled with petrol, he threatened to ignite himself, accusing the local Indiramma housing committee, which includes Congress leaders, of intentionally
omitting him from the list of beneficiaries.
Srikanth claimed that he was initially selected for the housing scheme, but his name was removed at the final stage due to vested interests. He asserted that despite fulfilling all eligibility requirements, the committee denied him the allotment of Indiramma house.
official and locals rushed to the spot and managed to prevent Srikanth from taking the extreme step. They snatched the petrol bottle from his hands and pacified him before the situation escalated further.
