A thief kept the police on their toes for a while after escaping with a TSRTC bus that was parked at a bus station in Korutla in Karimnagar district. The police managed to nab the thief after chasing him for 18 kilometers.
The police said the bus number TS08 20103 belonged to the Korutla depot ferry students of Kalluru Model School. At 3.55 pm on Tuesday, driver Praveen parked the bus on platform number eight of Korutla bus stand to go to school and went to the side along with conductor Gangadhar.
Meanwhile, an unknown person boarded the bus, started it and took it towards Nizamabad. The RTC employees who noticed it immediately informed the
police. The police and RTC employees of Metpally circle chased the bus in their vehicles to catch it.
But he hit three two-wheelers on the way at Korutla, Arapeta and Venkatraopet, injuring the motorists. At one point, a police vehicle chasing the bus was also hit and slightly damaged. Students boarding a private school bus on the road in Metpally town, narrowly avoided when the RTC bus was pulled over from the side.
Even as the chase continued, the police informed the Ibrahimpatnam police who staff parked vehicles blocking the national highway near Metpally. As the accused had no way to move the bus forward, he crashed into a nearby tree and stopped.
