A man suffered severe burn injuries after setting himself on fire outside the Bheemgal Police Station in Nizamabad district on Monday.

The victim was identified as Sudhakar. According to his family members, harassment by a Sub-Inspector (SI) drove him to take the extreme step. The family members alleged that the SI had repeatedly imposed fines on Sudhakar’s shop, while other shops in the area were not subjected to similar

action.

They claimed that Sudhakar was fined three times and expressed anguish over the alleged harassment. Sudhakar poured petrol on himself and set himself ablaze on Monday morning. He suffered around 90 per cent burn injuries and was shifted to a hospital in Nizamabad for treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are verifying the allegations made by the family members.
