A 29-year-old man was arrested by Nagole police on Thursday for cheating a woman by posing as an Indian Army officer using AI-generated photos and luring her with the promise of marriage.
Nagole SHO Mohammed Maqbool Jani informed that the accused, Mukera Govardhan of Shamirpet, befriended a woman from Anand Nagar, in Nagole, on social media.
He sent AI photos of himself in uniform and claimed to be an Army officer to win her trust. After a few months, they started living together, and he promised to marry her.
Later,
Govardhan took a large sum of money from the victim, stating that his father was ill and he needed it for his medical treatment.
After some time, when she asked him about marriage, he evaded the topic, but when she started pressing him about the topic, he began threatening her, prompting her to approach the police.
Investigations revealed that Govardhan was already married and was jailed last year for duping another woman from Alwal on the pretext of marriage, and was out on bail. A case has been registered, and further probe is underway, Nagole police said.
