Upset over mounting debts and pressure from friends seeking repayment of hand loans, a man died allegedly by suicide at Keshavgiri in Chandrayangutta on Monday.
Sagar Raju (57), a construction worker from Odisha, had migrated to the city and had been working at various construction sites for the past six years. He was staying alone in a rented house near Peeli Dargah in Chandrayangutta.
According to the police, Sagar became friends with Narasimhulu, a mason and due to lack of work during the pandemic in 2020, had borrowed a hand loan of Rs 5 lakh over a period of
time from Narasimhulu. However, even after repeated reminders and requests, he failed to repay it as promised.
On Sunday night, Sagar was forcibly taken by Narasimhulu to his friend Yousuf’s house in Patelnagar. There, Narasimhulu, Yousuf and their friend Qasim allegedly confined Sagar in the house and demanded to repay the loan immediately or sign a promissory bond giving a deadline for repayment.
The trio left the house to get the draft of the bond ready leaving Sagar alone in the house. Upset over the developments, he hanged from the ceiling fan in the house.
