A 27-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after suffering heavy financial losses in online betting in Choutuppal in Yadadri-Bhongir on Tuesday night.
The victim, identified as Balagoni Pavan Kumar, who was running a cattle feed business on Valigonda Road in Choutuppal, had, over the past few years, reportedly developed a habit of online betting, which led to severe financial losses running into lakhs of rupees.
According to the police, Pavan had earlier fallen into
debt due to betting losses. After the family came to know about his situation, his father, Srinivas, cleared the pending loans and warned him not to return to betting activities. However, Pavan allegedly continued betting and again incurred losses, pushing him into fresh debts.
Unable to cope with the mounting pressure and fearing that he could not explain the situation to his family, Pavan took the extreme step. He died by hanging from a ceiling fan at his house in the absence of his family members.
