Kerala-based jewellery trader Malabar Gold & Diamonds is being criticized during the Dhanteras festival on Saturday, when people buy gold and silver considering it as a mark of prosperity, due to a Paksitani connection.
In September, the company collaborated with London-based Pakistani Instagram influencer Alishba Khalid, who had mocked at India for the Operation Sindoor, by terming it a 'cowardly act'.
When the jewellery brand opened its store in London, Malabar partnered with Khalid as a promoter. Social media users slammed out Malabar for its 'anti-national act' and
a few others called it a 'sympathizer of Pakistan".
Media reports mentioned that Malabar Gold & Diamonds moved the high court against the posts and materials uploaded on social media including Facebook, Instagram and Google in which users linked the company with Pakistan.
In the plea, the company mentioned that the posts were tarnishing the image of the company and would have a detrimental affect on the sales, during the festive season, and sought an injunction to prevent further posts. Additionally, the company submitted a list of 442 URLs containing the 'defamatory content'
