The State government’s ‘Mahalakshmi’ free bus travel scheme for women has seen a significant rise in usage, with an additional 97.20 lakh women passengers availing the facility during July, August and September 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year.

According to TGSRTC data, 3,467.91 lakh (34.67 crore) women passengers travelled under the scheme during the

three-month period in 2025. The number increased to 3,565.11 lakh (35.65 crore) during the same period in 2026, an increase of 97.20 lakh passengers.

TGSRTC officials said the rise in demand had prompted the corporation to increase the number of buses and trips on routes witnessing heavy passenger traffic. Additional trips have particularly been introduced on inter-district and major routes.
