Doctors carry out a 14-hour complex surgery using a portion of the father’s liver to treat a child with Glycogen Storage Disease, with treatment provided free under the Aarogyasri Scheme.
In a rare and remarkable medical achievement, doctors at Osmania General Hospital successfully performed a liver transplant on an 18-month-old child suffering from Glycogen Storage Disease. The child, weighing around 10 kilograms, underwent the complex procedure in which a portion of the father’s liver was transplanted.
The highly challenging surgery lasted nearly 14 hours
and was carried out by a dedicated team of specialists. Doctors confirmed that the child’s condition is now stable following the operation.
The entire treatment was provided free of cost under the Aarogyasri Scheme, highlighting the accessibility of advanced healthcare in the public sector. Medical experts noted that such procedures are extremely rare in government hospitals across the country.
Medical and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha congratulated the medical team for their exceptional effort and success in performing the life-saving transplant.
