Lightning warning issued for Hyderabad amid thunderstorms

Active thunderstorm conditions prevailing across Hyderabad on Tuesday evening triggered severe weather warnings from weather agencies and research institutions, urging people to remain on high alert.

The Damini Lightning Alert mobile application, developed by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), indicated that multiple lightning strikes were detected in close proximity to the city centre and travelled towards suburban regions, including Miyapur and



Ibrahimpatnam.

The app’s GPS-based tracking system registered localised strike clusters, activating emergency red alert banners for residents within the high-risk radius. The platform’s timeline indicated frequent discharges occurring within the past 5 to 20 minutes, signalling an intense spell of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

Authorities advised the general public to seek safe, indoor shelter immediately and avoid open spaces, bodies of water and tall structures until the severe weather passes.
