Motorists heading towards Hayathnagar from Dilsukhnagar side can now pass freely without having to pause at LB Nagar junction with the flyover thrown open for traffic on Friday.

Constructed as part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), it is the first facility to be launched under the programme this year in the city. Till date, five structures have been thrown open to traffic under SRDP, facilitating smooth flow of traffic in different areas.

The flyover has been constructed at a cost of Rs 42 crore and is part of the package to come up with facilities to ease traffic flow at the junction with nearly Rs 100 crore. The L B Nagar junction will be conflict free once the flyover connecting Hayathnagar towards Dilsukhnagar and the underpass on the ring road is completed as part of the project.

According to the GHMC officials, the Passenger Car Unit (PCU) per hour in 2015 without Metro Rail was 14,153 vehicles at the

junction and it is expected to increase to 21,990 units by 2034.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan appealed to the citizens to bear with some inconvenience when developmental works were being taken up in the city. He also complimented the GHMC officials for completing the structure as per schedule.

Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav said the TRS government was working towards improving road infrastructure in the city. All facilities and amenities that the citizens hoped for were being provided by the government in a phased manner, he said adding that the new flyover would not just ease traffic at the junction but also improve traffic flow in the neighbouring areas as well.

Home Minister Mahmood Ali said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had been taking up developmental works and ensuring welfare of people through various programmes.
