Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal sale of pharmaceutical excipients through label tampering and misrepresentation of manufacturing details, the officers of the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a raid at DK Pharmaceuticals in Alwal.
The officials detected 12 cardboard drums, each containing 20 kg (total 240 kg) of a pharmaceutical excipient Hydroxypropyl Betadex USP/NF. The stock was found affixed with labels falsely stating the manufacturer’s name as DK Pharmaceuticals, with a purported manufacturing address.
Upon investigation, it was found
that the labels falsely declared the product as being manufactured by DK Pharmaceuticals, with a purported manufacturing address at Sangareddy.
The manufacturing facility was verified and confirmed to be fictitious and non-existent. Further inquiry revealed that two persons Sateesh Babu Dhulapalli and Nagaswami Katragadda, partners of DK Pharmaceuticals, had illegally removed the original labels of the pharmaceutical excipient and affixed fabricated labels indicating a fictitious manufacturing unit, thereby engaging in unauthorized and illegal activities. The stocks worth Rs. 70.56 lakh were seized during the raid.
