Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao on Wednesday said the sacrifice made by Galwan martyr Col B Santhosh Babu will be remembered forever by the people of the country.

The Minister, accompanied by Energy Minister G Jagdish Reddy, unveiled a 10-foot bronze statue of Col Santhosh Babu and garlanded it. Emotions ran high when the cloth covering the statue was removed with people raising slogans – Jai Jawan, Santhosh Babu Amar Rahe. The family members of Santhosh Babu were also present. The junction where the statue is located has been named Santhosh Babu Chowrastha.

Speaking at a programme held on the premises of Old Market Yard, Rama Rao said he was proud of having got the opportunity to unveil the statue of Col Santhosh Babu. He recollected that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao would frequently say that living for 100 years was not a great achievement,

but leading an inspirational and meaningful life was important.

The State government, he said, had supported the family of Col Santhosh Babu. He also appreciated Professor of JNTU Srinivas Reddy for his work in preparing the statue of Col Santhosh Babu.

Col Santhosh Babu’s wife Santhoshini said the family’s dream of setting up a statue of her husband was fulfilled. The statue would serve as a reminder to the people of their responsibilities, she said, adding that besides extending financial help and a house site, the State government appointed her in a Group-I post.

Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, MLAs Gadari Kishore, Bollam Mallaiah Yadav and Kancherla Bhupal Reddy were also present.

Earlier, TRS leaders stopped Rama Rao’s convoy en route at Chityal and Nakrekal and welcomed him.
