BRS working president KT Rama Rao came down heavily on the Congress government for betraying farmers affected by the realignment of the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. Appealing to the farmers to stay united and boycott the local body polls to bring the government to its knees, he assured full support from the BRS until the RRR alignment was corrected scientifically and fairly.

Villagers affected by the RRR alignment from Nalgonda, Suryapet, Gajwel and Sangareddy constituencies met Rama Rao at Telangana Bhavan on Monday to pour out their woes. Former Minister G Jagadish Reddy and public representatives from the joint Nalgonda district were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the BRS working president said that before the Assembly elections, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had assured to ensure that farmers do not suffer the brunt of the RRR alignment in the erstwhile Nalgonda district. “Following these assurances, farmers voted the Congress to power. But once in office, the same party has inflicted serious damage by altering the alignment to suit vested interests,” he said.

Stating that Congress leaders had abandoned the people after securing seats and were indulging in earning commissions to send money bags to appease their Delhi bosses, he urged farmers to resist the selfish realignment that was devastating lives and livelihoods. He asked the affected villages to pass resolutions, boycott

local body elections, and stage protests collectively. “Both the State and Central governments will be forced to respond,” he said.

He said Telangana Bhavan would serve as “Janata Garage” where farmers could seek legal and political support.

Drawing a comparison, Rama Rao recalled that during BRS rule, land acquisition disputes for major projects like the Outer Ring Road were resolved through direct dialogue with farmers. He charged that while the then BRS government held repeated discussions, ensured fair rehabilitation, and provided permanent solutions, the current Congress government was bulldozing ahead without consultation.

The former Minister pointed out that though union Minister G Kishan Reddy had written to the Centre over RRR realignment by the State government, the Centre remained unresponsive. BRS MPs would raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha and the party would also corner the government in the Assembly, he said, adding that the Congress lacked the courage even to convene an Assembly session on the issue.

Accusing the Congress of repeating past mistakes, Rama Rao said Nalgonda district, which once suffered from a fluorosis problem, was transformed under K Chandrashekhar Rao through Mission Bhagiratha and various irrigation projects. “We brought water, prosperity and dignity to Nalgonda. But the Congress is undoing it all by betraying the very farmers who believed them,” he said.
