BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Congress government was using police forces to suppress dissent by filing illegal cases against students who were questioning the failing education system.

He said such police politics would not be tolerated and that the BRS would extend all possible support to student leaders who were fighting for their rights.

Interacting with student leaders from various universities at BRSV president Gellu Srinivas’s residence here on Wednesday, Rama Rao said the Congress had pushed education into a decline within 20 months. He stated that the government was now targeting students for raising their voices on behalf of people’s issues, and was using the police to settle its political scores.

“Even a retweet

on social media or a peaceful protest is leading to cases. Filing an FIR against Gellu Srinivas’s wife Swetha, who did not even participate in the protest, clearly indicates the government’s intentions to harass those questioning its failures,” he said, questioning Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi’s silence on atrocities in the Congress government in Telangana.

The BRS working president reminded that students played a crucial role in the Telangana movement and promised complete support to students in their fight. He assured medical aid to injured student leader Narsing and pledged that the BRS would stand firmly with every student activist fighting for their rights. “The Congress cannot silence the student protests with its prohibitory orders and illegal cases,” he affirmed.
