KTR proposes more zones & circles in GHMC

Wed 13 Jun 2018, 12:34:02
Municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao has a new panacea to overcome administrative hassles faced by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The minister believes there should be a municipal circle office for every three wards and on that basis, 150 wards in GHMC should have a total of 50 circles.

Not stopping at that, KTR wants 10 zones from the existing six and urged senior officials to work out the modalities on the proposal. The municipal circles in the city had gone from 18 to 30 a couple of years ago.

After chairing a review meeting on civic matters, including capping of Jawaharnagar dumpyard and implementation of plastic ban in the city, he said there is a greater need for decentralisation of powers and creation of more circles. To curb extensive use of plastic in government offices, especially water bottles and

other plastic material, the minister said all municipal corporations and municipalities have been told to strictly implement plastic ban. KTR directed municipal administration principal secretary Arvind Kumar to direct all the civic bodies on strictly enforcing plastic ban in the municipal offices.

KTR interacted with senior officials and enquired about road restoration, desiltation of nalas, removal of obstructions in nalas, critical bottlenecks, waterlogging points and action plan with regard to monsoon preparedness. He expressed unhappiness over the road restoration works.

“Only the minister, mayor, commissioner or additional commissioners cannot resolve all the issues. Field-level officers should have coordination with other departments in GHMC and outside,” the minister stressed.
