Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday laid the foundation for construction of 468 double bedroom houses at Bandamaisamma Nagar under Sanathnagar Constituency limits here.

Double bedroom houses are not just an asset but they are being constructed as a matter of self respect for the poor, the Minister said while addressing the gathering.  

The Telangana Government was taking up the construction of double bedroom houses on priority. Already, tenders have been finalised for construction of 60,000 houses.“All efforts are being made to make Hyderabad a slum-free city as well,” Rama Rao said.

The Minister said a few sections were trying to create hurdles in the construction of double bedroom houses but the



Telangana Government would fulfill its promises made to the people.

Reiterating that the government was committed for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden, he said the Amma Vodi scheme will be launched from June.Under the programme, the government will be paying Rs 12,000 to parents of newborns and an additional Rs 1,000 if a girl was born. 

Similarly, the KCR kit comprising of 13 items, including baby powder and others will be supplied from June 2, he announced.

These 468 houses are being constructed in an area spread over two acres at a cost of Rs.34 crore. One lakh houses will be constructed in Hyderabad in one year, the Minister said adding that more welfare programmes would be launched in the coming days.
