IT Minister, KT Rama Rao on Monday evening formally inaugurated the historic step well at Bapu Ghat which was recently revived. The restored step well of Bapu Ghat is part of the elaborate efforts of the State government to restore defunct, dilapidated and historically vital step wells of Hyderabad by collaborating with civic society including several well-meaning voluntary organisations and individuals from Hyderabad.
The inaugural function of the step well at Bapu Ghat on Monday was also attended by Hyderabad Mayor, Gadwal Vijayalaxmi and Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Arvind Kumar, who played a vital role
in the restoration of step wells in Hyderabad.
A few months ago, as part of efforts to revive step wells, Hyderabad Design Forum (HDF) had submitted a list of 100 step wells in Hyderabad to Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) that can be restored. The State government later decided to shortlist the wells that will be facelifted and take-up works in a phase wise manner. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) along with other private organisations also played an important role in the revival of step wells, officials said.
