The State government intends to achieve 100 per cent toilets for every household and declare all cities and municipal towns as ODF on August 15, marking the Independence Day celebrations.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao has set this ambitious goal to the municipal commissioners in the State failing which departmental action will be initiated against them.

To ensure construction of toilets within the fixed schedule, the Minister who had already released adequate funds also suggested that the municipalities could use the funds collected under Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS). “There is no dearth of funds. If any municipality uses LRS funds out of necessity, we will immediately reimburse the amount.

But the works should not stop under any circumstance,” he asserted.
The

municipalities of Madhira, Bainsa, Bhongir, Ibrahimpatnam, Sattupalli, Achampet, Huzurabad, Huzurnagar, Gajwel, Jagtial, Shadnagar, Suryapet, Siddipet, Sircilla, Boduppal and Narsampet have been declared as ODF municipalities.

The Minister appreciated the municipal commissioners and staff of these municipalities and asked them to assist the staff of municipal towns in their vicinity in completion of the toilets construction and achieving the ODF status.

Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration Sridevi has been instructed to prepare a report on best practices by different municipalities in Telangana State to replicate them in other municipalities. A meeting with mayors, municipal chairpersons and commissioners will be held in Hyderabad shortly besides review of the status of works especially ODF status at regular intervals.
