BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday distributed 5,000 KCR Kits to new mothers at Telangana Bhavan as part of his “Gift a Smile” initiative, ahead of his birthday on July 24. The move marked a symbolic revival of the BRS government’s flagship maternal welfare scheme.

Stating that the Congress government had wilfully shelved the programme, Rama Rao said the KCR Kits scheme had significantly

boosted institutional deliveries and helped reduce maternal and infant mortality across Telangana.

He said that the Revanth Reddy-led government had halted distribution of the kits purely to deny political credit to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. “Countless mothers have suffered for the last 20 months as the Revanth government refuses to distribute kits that transformed public healthcare,” he said.
