Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao has directed Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) engineers to complete Package-9 works before October and to prepare an action plan to fill 666 ponds.

Speaking at a review meeting here on Friday at Pragathi Bhavan, the Minister asked Kaleshwaram ENC Nalla Venkateswarlu, Government Lift Irrigation Adviser Penta Reddy and Superintending Engineer Sudhakar Reddy to asses and also speed up works on the 12.035-km tunnel, pump house and surge pool. He asked them to review progress at the ground level and also with contractors.

“We are hopeful of filling Upper Manair with water from Mid Manair by the October-end. Meanwhile, we must complete the Package-9 works such as construction of main canal, and land acquisition and construction of distributary canals,” he said, adding that the package would bring additional 30,000 acres of new ayacut. The Package 9 works include two pump houses, Malkampet reservoir, a tunnel and 27.50 km of canals. In all, 86,150 acres would be irrigated under the package once completed.
