Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for what he described as “blatant disregard” for the people of Telangana.
The controversy erupted after the newly appointed Andhra Pradesh BJP chief PVN Madhav presented a map of India that showed only the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, ignoring the existence of Telangana as a separate State.
In a strongly worded post on X, Rama Rao expressed his dismay over the incident.
“We have fought for generations for our cultural identity, our rightful place in history, and our geographical position—Telangana. Today, your Andhra Pradesh State BJP chief, Madhav Garu, has belittled our struggle by gifting a united Andhra Pradesh map and ignoring the existence of Telangana. This is absolutely unacceptable,” he said, emphasizing the significance of Telangana’s statehood, achieved on June 2, 2014, after decades of struggle and sacrifices by the people of the region.
“What are we if our history is erased?!” he asked, terming the act of presenting a map that erases Telangana’s existence an insult to the State’s history and the sacrifices of its martyrs.
The BRS leader demanded clarity from Modi on whether this act reflected the BJP’s broader political agenda or plans regarding Telangana.
“Sir, I request you to clarify whether this reflects your party’s plan or political agenda,” Rama Rao said, urging the BJP leadership to issue an apology to the people of Telangana if the incident was a genuine oversight.
“If
it’s a genuine oversight, I demand an apology from your party leadership to the people of Telangana,” he added.
BRS leader Dasoju Sravan also condemned the incident, stating that the India map displayed by Lokesh and Madhav, deliberately omitting Telangana, was a dangerous and deeply offensive act that struck at the very heart of the identity of the people of Telangana.
“It is shocking that while Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh are clearly acknowledged on the map, Telangana, the 29th State of the Indian Union, born out of decades of democratic people’s struggle, historical sacrifice, and a constitutional process is erased. This selective recognition of these senior leaders of Andhra Pradesh reflects more than ignorance. It reveals deep-rooted arrogance, contempt, a deliberate denial, and a political conspiracy to delegitimize Telangana’s rightful existence and identity. This act is a cruel assault on every soul of Telanganite who fought for Telangana’s statehood; an attack on the Constitution of India, which guarantees the territorial integrity and recognition of all its states; and a symbolic extermination of Telangana’s identity, heritage, and legitimacy,” he said.
“On one hand, they loot our Godavari and Krishna water, and now, they insult us by showing a map of India that erases the very identity of Telangana,” he said, appealing to the Telangana DGP to immediately take suo motu cognizance of the act and register a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“This is not just about a map. It is about our struggle, our sacrifices, our history, our identity and after all our constitutional rights,” he said on X.
