Kodandaram withdraws plea over rally

The writ plea seeking judicial intervention for the rally scheduled by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) on Wednesday ended in an anti-climax with the petitioner Professor Kodandaram seeking leave to withdraw the writ petition.
The writ petition was filed in the High Court when police permission was not forthcoming for the intended rally from Sanjeeviah Park to the Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in the city on Wednesday. The court had asked the government to look into the issue and find a way out. The government then offered various other venues for the event including at Miyapur and Nagole.
The judge then wanted the petitioner to examine the same and revert to the court. When the matter came up on Tuesday before the court, the judge also suggested either Osmania

University or Nizam College for the meeting. However, when both the university and the police rejected these suggestions, the judge started dictating an order that seemed to suggest that the rally/meeting could be held at Nagole. At this stage, the petitioner’s counsel Rachna Reddy sought leave and withdrew the writ petition stating that the relief that the court was extending was not what the petitioner had sought.
Meanwhile, Kodandaram said the TJAC was fighting for the genuine cause of unemployed youth in the State. “There are 2.5 lakh vacancies in the government but the administration is yet to fill up these posts,” he said, adding that the government should release calendar for recruitment during the year. “We will hold the rally on Wednesday,” he asserted.
